Walking under ladders might be bad luck, but climbing the corporate ladder with The Theatre Company of Bryan/College Station is definitely your good fortune! The wildly entertaining musical comedy HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING is the second main stage production of TTC’s 37th season, Because of Randy.
The show opened on Broadway in 1961 and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It won the Pulitzer for Drama (1962) and has had several revivals as well as adaptations for film and TV. HOW TO SUCCEED has charmed theatre-goers for decades with its memorable songs, witty humor, and hilarious look at the world of business. Featuring such favorites as “I Believe in You,” “Brotherhood of Man,” and “Been a Long Day,” this show remains entertaining and relevant today.
The story follows ambitious young J. Pierrepont Finch (Paul Early), who discovers a guidebook promising a shortcut to advancing his career. Armed with his book and his charm, Finch quickly rises from window washer to the top of the World Wide Wicket Company. As he encounters office politics, romantic complications, and other hilarious obstacles, he realizes that getting ahead may be more complicated than just going by the book. With a colorful cast of characters performing dazzling music and choreography, this show promises an evening of classic Broadway entertainment for all ages. You don’t want to miss this funny story of ambition, identity, and what happens when we try to follow someone else’s definition of success.
