Dive into THE LITTLE MERMAID, the family-friendly opening production of The Theatre Company of Bryan/College Station’s Season 37: Because of Randy. Named to honor the late Randy Wilson, who served as artistic director of TTC from 1993 until 2016, Season 37 spotlights Randy’s enduring legacy of creativity and commitment to high-quality community musical theatre in the Brazos Valley.
THE LITTLE MERMAID opened on Broadway in 2008 and ran for almost 700 performances, winning nominations for best original score, best lighting design, and outstanding performance by an actress. Based on the animated film and the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, THE LITTLE MERMAID tells the story of Ariel (Audrey Cook), a young mermaid with a beautiful voice who is drawn to the world above the sea, especially after meeting the handsome and charming Prince Eric (Jackson Reasoner). A lively supporting cast of colorful sea creatures (Dustin Topo- Kemp as King Triton, Samantha Shephard as Sebastian, and Maressa Werth as Ursula) help—and hinder—Ariel’s exploration of the human world. With unforgettable songs such as “Under the Sea,” “Part of Your World,” and “Kiss the Girl,” THE LITTLE MERMAID celebrates the power of finding your own voice and having the courage to follow your dreams and your heart.
