On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston to announce the end of the war and the freedom of enslaved people, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Today, Juneteenth is a federal holiday celebrated with reflection, rejoicing, and learning about Black history and culture. Discover the many ways Bryan, Texas, celebrates and honors Juneteenth.
